The US military captured three members of the Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist group during a raid in eastern Syria, the US Joint Command for the Middle East (USCENTCOM) said on Sunday.
Those arrested included a man responsible for feeding the organization and a man who played the role of an ISIS intermediary, according to a related press release. The third person is said to be an “accomplice” of the jihadists.
According to the same source, a civilian was slightly injured in the raid by ground forces and helicopters on Saturday and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Since the defeat of ISIS in Syria in 2019, the international coalition led by Washington has frequently carried out operations against alleged members of the organization.
While hundreds of American soldiers stationed in northeast Syria as part of the anti-Jihadist coalition continue to fight for the Syrian Democratic Forces (which are dominated by Kurds) and attack members of ISIS.
In 2022, two leaders of the jihadist organization were killed: one in February by US special forces in the northwest of the country, the other by former regime-backed rebels in Deraa (in the south).
