Belinda Bencic, Tokyo 2020 Olympic singles champion and seed no. 12 at the Australian Open 2023 was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Grand Slam in Melbourne.

The Swiss was defeated by Arina Sabalenko (5th seed) with a score of 7-5, 6-2 after an hour and 28 minutes of play.

In the first set, Bencic led with a score of 4:2, but the athlete from Belarus fought back and lost only three games by the end of the match.

Arina will fight the winner of the match between the Croatian Donna Vekic (64 WTA) and the Czech Linda Fruhvirtova (82 WTA, 17 years old) to reach the semifinals of the Antipozi competition.
