If Germany does not take the initiative, then Poland will find other partners to supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in a scathing comment, accusing Berlin of supporting Kyiv against the Russian invasion forces.

Poland is ready to overcome Germany’s reluctance to create a “smaller coalition” of countries and find allies willing to send tanks to Ukraine, the Polish prime minister said in an interview with the Polish Press Agency, published today, Sunday.

“We will not passively watch Ukraine bleed,” Morawiecki said.

His comments came amid heated debate over whether to send German-made tanks to Ukraine. Kyiv requested weapons in order to resume the offensive against Russia in order to regain the occupied territories.

Germany has expressed a reluctance to send tanks without the US doing the same, fearing an escalation in the conflict. Berlin also has the right to veto the re-export of weapons by any of its allies. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius denied blocking any supplies.

“We have a very close dialogue on this issue with our international partners, primarily with the US,” Pistorius, who took over as quarterback last week, said in an interview with Bild, also released today.

Morawiecki has said in the past that he is ready to continue supplying Leopard even without Berlin’s approval.

“Since Pistorius denies that Germany is blocking the supply of tanks to Ukraine, I would like to hear a clear statement that Berlin supports their mission,” the Polish prime minister said.

“The war is here and now. Don’t the Germans want to keep them in stock until Russia defeats Ukraine and knocks on Berlin’s door? Moravsky said.
