United Kingdom: Three Days of May Celebrations to Celebrate the Coronation of King Charles

Buckingham Palace has released details of a three-day program to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III: the ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 6 at Westminster Abbey, followed by concerts, memorial lighting and community initiatives over the next 48 hours. volunteerism.

Charles, 74, will be formally crowned eight months after the death of his mother, who passed away on September 8 at the age of 96. The past period allowed both mourning in memory of Queen Elizabeth II and the organization of the ceremony.

Buckingham is aiming for a glamorous ceremony and an equally spectacular celebration, given the historical significance attached to the coronation of a new monarch.

But will the royal family be reunited? Buckingham Palace has not yet specified whether Harry and his wife Meghan will attend the ceremony. Prince Harry’s candid book The Reserve, released on January 10, did not cause any negative reaction, which tells about members of the royal family.

The three-hour ceremony for the coronation of Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953 was a grand one, attended by 8,251 dignitaries at Westminster Abbey. It was watched on television by 27 million Britons – out of a total population of 36 million at the time.

Coronation of Charles… but also of Camilla

The coronation ceremony of Charles III will take place on the morning of May 6 in Westminster Abbey, like its predecessors for 900 years, under the presidency of the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, head of the Anglican Church.

It is reported that royal consort Camilla will also wear the crown, but no details have been released yet.

Charles III and Camilla will arrive at Westminster Abbey in a royal procession and return to the palace after the completion of the coronation ceremony to greet the crowd from the balcony.

Concert at Windsor Castle

On Sunday at Windsor Castle in west London, a concert is organized with the participation of the stars of the world music scene. The concert will be broadcast by the BBC. Buckingham Palace has not announced the names of the artists who will perform.

Later in the evening, iconic monuments across the UK will be illuminated and outdoor festivities will take place at various locations.

The celebration will be reminiscent of the June celebration of the “platinum jubilee” of Queen Elizabeth II (including the completion of the 70th anniversary on the British throne).

Monday will be a public holiday for Britons and Buckingham Palace is encouraging citizens to get involved in philanthropic initiatives to promote volunteering.
