Olena Rybakina defeats Igu Svyatek, but says she needs to improve her game a lot

After defeating the Pole, the reigning Wimbledon champion remains grounded and says she still has a lot to improve in her game to one day become the world leader.

“Obviously I’ve gained a lot of experience in the last twelve months, especially since Wimbledon. I think I have a lot of experience which has helped me to have a great training with my team in the last months.

I don’t know if I will one day be number 1 in the world, at the moment I think I need to continue to improve many aspects of my game. There are great players there, all the opponents are really strong, so I see that I still have a lot to improve.

But if I perform like I did this week, with that level of consistency, I’d say I can be number one, I can beat anybody, but now I’ve got to find that consistency.” – Olena Rybakinaquoted by Eurosport.

After an hour and 29 minutes of play, Rybakina defeated Svyatek in two sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Olena Rybakina will face Olena Ostapenko (17th seed and Roland Garros 2017 champion) to reach the semifinals in Melbourne.
