Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said today that he hopes the Swedish authorities will not allow a protest rally related to the burning of the Koran.
“This permission was given to this person despite all our warnings. This heinous act will take place around 4:00 pm Turkish time (3:00 pm Greek time), I hope that the Swedish authorities will take the necessary measures by then and prevent this from happening,” Cavusoglu told reporters.
The Turkish minister also argued that this protest cannot refer to freedom of speech.
Earlier today, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said his Swedish counterpart’s planned visit to Ankara next week was canceled after the Swedish authorities gave permission for protests in Stockholm.
