Olena Ostapenko (25, 17 WTA) advanced to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open after springing a surprise to eliminate Cory Gauff (18, 7 WTA), 7-5, 6-3.

As in every match in Melbourne, Olena Ostapenko was in the spotlight due to her unusual outfit, as well as her reaction during the confrontation. The Latvian was often unhappy with the decisions of the referees, although the Australian Open will benefit from the automatic ball placement system from 2021.

Somehow logically, in an interview offered on the court after the match, Yelena Ostapenko was asked whether she trusts the automatics: “I saw that you do not fully trust the system from the lines. There are many questions, you often look at your coach. Do you believe in the system?”.

The answer came immediately: “To be honest, no!” – said Olena Ostapenko.
