Olena Ostapenko appears to have found the form in Melbourne that brought her the Roland Garros title nearly six years ago. The athlete from Latvia reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2023, defeating Koko Gauff (7th seed) in two sets with the score 7-5, 6-3.

The #17 seed Ostapenko started the game more difficult and lost serve once, but played more and more aggressively and won the first set, winning twice in the return game (7-5).
The second set was balanced until the score became 4-3 in favor of the Latvian, after which Jelena forced again and made a break. Gauff was unable to break back and the set ended 6-3.
Ostapenko saved seven of Gauff’s eight break points.
Know:
- For a place in the semifinals of the tournament in Melbourne, Olena will fight with Olena Rybakina (seed number 22), after the reigning Wimbledon champion eliminated Iga Svyatek (the WTA leader and the main favorite).
- Ostapenko did not reach the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam tournament from Wimbledon-2018.
