The fifth favorite of the competition in Melbourne, Rublev won after two hours and ten minutes of play against Evans (seeded No. 25) with a score of 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.
Andrii dominated his opponent with an attacking style and hit 60 winning shots in three sets (including 10 aces).
In an interview on the court, Rublev thanked Evans for his help during the match: “I asked for a banana, but they didn’t have any. Dan asked earlier, so he had two and gave me one.”
Andriy Rublyov will fight for a place in the quarters with the winner of the match between Dane Holger Rune (10 ATP, favorite 9) and Frenchman Hugo Humbert (106 ATP).
