There is new information about his actions “fake doctor” who, although a physical therapist, claimed to be a neurologist, deceiving patients with multiple sclerosis.
The case came to light following a complaint by the patient’s brother, which ended in November 2020 in Menemeni, Thessaloniki.
Since then, the police have identified 15 victims of the “false doctor”, five of whom have died due to illness. A 65-year-old man was charged not only with fraud, but also with serial murder.
How did he act?
The alleged perpetrator convinced the patients to stop taking their conventional medications and get stem cell therapy. For each injection of stem cells, the fake doctor charged the victims between 10,000 and 30,000 euros.
Previously, he gave them amino acid (peptide) preparations, which he claimed prepared the body to receive and assimilate stem cells. For each bottle of peptides, he collected about 200 euros.
However, neuroscientists who were asked about this in the context of the study clarified that amino acids have no use in medicine. The doctor said that the treatment of multiple sclerosis with stem cells is in the experimental stage in Israel, but clarified that the stem cells come from the patient’s own body, and not from the placenta of a pregnant woman or a horse. as the fake doctor told his victims.
A 65-year-old man who runs a physiotherapy clinic in East Attica worked with a doctor in Germany and, to add credibility to the scam, accompanied patients to Germany for supposedly specialized tests. However, the doctors, to whom the police showed the results of the analyzes of the alleged criminal’s patients, said that these were brain tests, which are also carried out by diagnostic centers in Athens and Thessaloniki.
A number of patients, and mostly their relatives, who were examined by the police indicated that the bogus doctor did not produce receipts and, when forced to do so, was listed on tax returns as a physiotherapist and not as a neurologist. Any victims who pointed this out to him were told that he was doing it for tax reasons and that he himself specialized in the US.
The defendant, in order not to reveal the fraud, asked his victims “not to talk too much”, and in order to justify his exhortation, he told them that such a specific treatment was detrimental to the interests of the pharmaceutical companies and therefore they were persecuting him.
The case file regarding the 65-year-old has already been handed over to the investigator and the publication of photos and details of the alleged perpetrator is expected, since it is assumed that the number of his victims is much higher.
The 65-year-old is in Attica while his German accomplice is in Cape Town, South Africa, where he has reportedly settled in recent years.
