From 2035, all new thermal cars will be banned from sale in Europe, except for brands that sell very few cars per year, such as Bugatti or McLaren. But this measure will affect all manufacturers of a wide profile, which will force them to accelerate the development of their electric model range. As such, some have already announced their desire to sell only zero-emission cars in the next few years, such as Ford. The firm has indeed recently officially discontinued the Fiesta to make way for new electric models.

New platform
Ford’s electric range currently only consists of Chewed, so it will have to accelerate to achieve its goals and satisfy the European Union. But in order to accelerate the development of its fashionable models, the American firm plans to cooperate with Volkswagen. In what form? Well, the German manufacturer will simply borrow its own SEM platform, which should therefore equip several models, including an all-new SUV that still remains a mystery. This collaboration would have saved Ford a lot of development time.
Not for long
However, this MEB platform should not be used by the blue oval brand. Indeed, they say that only two electric SUVs would be equipped. Ford wants to eventually develop its own platform to power its future models at its Valance plant. This will soon undergo major changes to accommodate the production of these future connected cars. The brand has yet to announce a launch date.
