
Gabriela Firea, former mayor general of the capital, now minister of family affairs, was heard on Wednesday in the General Prosecutor’s Office as a witness in the case of August 10, she confirmed that the discussion was about the documents on the delegation of powers, reports News.ro.
Firea arrived at the General Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday evening, and at the exit of the meeting, she said that she was summoned as a witness in the case on August 10. She informed that the discussion related to the documents of the delegation.
On August 10, 2018, Gabriela Firea delegated her duties as the mayor-general of the capital to the then vice-mayor, Aureliano Bedulescu. Then a rally was announced in Victory Square in Bucharest, which ended in violence.
In April 2021, the Court of Appeal of Bucharest decided to reopen the case from August 10, accepting the complaint of Ioan Kreciunianu, one of the protesters who was attacked by the gendarmes.
Previously, the file on the violence of the protest on August 10, 2018 in PiaĊ£a Victoriei was classified in terms of acts against the constitutional order, as well as in terms of accusations against the coordinators of the law enforcement intervention.
The military prosecutor’s office has refused criminal prosecution for abusive behavior, abuse and official negligence in the case of some gendarmes who “perpetrated unjustified violence against some protesters”.
In August 2020, the Chief Prosecutor of DIICOT upheld the appeals against the Order of 06/26/2020, which partially dismissed the charges in the August 10 case, and ordered the reopening of the criminal investigation. Gendarmerie chiefs are again under investigation.
