As we know, the government is particularly invested in the fight against speeding. And for good reason, this means a big financial gain, while radars could bring in more than a billion euros throughout 2023. Part of that is why the government wants to increase deployment and invest in increasingly sophisticated devices. Say goodbye to old cockpits and make room for super-efficient radars like turrets or private cars. But another type of verbalization machine will also develop on the sides of our roads: urban radar. We will explain everything to you.
An automatic speed camera on the RD 137 in St Sulpice d’Arnoult has been scaring drivers in recent days by flashing as they obeyed the speed limit!
This radar was undergoing maintenance. Therefore, there will be no verbalization. Thanks to the whistleblowers!– Gendarmerie of Primorsky Charante (@Gendarmerie_017) September 16, 2021
The first in a long series
To be fair, these booths have been around since 2021, but they are few and far between, and above all, they don’t speak up yet. Because it is in 2023 that the government really wants to accelerate the development of these speed cameras, while 600 are due to install over the next few months. And the very first of this long series has just been commissioned near Belfort, in Franche-Comté. More precisely in Valdois commune that this cabin was installed on Oscar Eret Avenue, which allows access to Eloi. This is already the second city radar installed in the city.
Multiple functions
A true miniature radar tower, these booths can report numerous violations in the city, such as not wearing a seat belt, using a phone while driving, or even not obeying white lines and safe distance. But at the moment, these city speed cameras are only allowed to detect speeding and running red lights. In addition, out of more than 700 salons on the roads in general, by the end of 2023, only 200 will actually be able to issue tickets.
