2011 and 2014 Wimbledon champion Kvitova (15th seed) lost to Ukrainian Angelina Kalinina 7-5, 6-4.
The match at John Cain Arena was very intense and lasted two hours.
In the next round, Kalinin (39 WTA) will play the winner of the match between Czech Barbora Krejcikova (23 WTA, 20th seed) and French Clara Burel (130 WTA, out of qualification).
In the Grand Slam Antipozi 2019 final, Kvitova lost to Naomi Osaka 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-4.
Australian Open 2023 will be held from January 16 to 29. Ashley Barty (now retired from sports) and Rafael Nadal became the champions of the title.
