Cremonese pulled off a surprise for the Coppa Italia Round of 16 and knocked out Napoli (Serie A leaders) with a 5-4 penalty shootout win.

Napoli, Cremonese were relegated from the Italian Cup

Last place in the Italian first league opened the scoring with Pickel (’18), but Napoli took the lead thanks to goals from Juan Jesus (’33) and Simeone (’36). Cremonese managed to take the match to extra time by scoring Afena-Gyan (’87).

In the 100th minute, Sernicola (Cremonese) received a second yellow card and was sent off, but Luciano Spalletti’s men did not take advantage.

Vazquez, Buonajuto, Tzajut, Valeri and Afena-Gyan scored for Cremonese in the penalty shootout, while Politano, Simeone, Zelinski and Osimene scored for Napoli. Only Lobotka missed.

Cremonese will play Roma on February 1 in the quarterfinals.
