Ons Jabert, the second favorite to win the Australian Open, qualified for the second round of the Grand Slam in Melbourne, but the Tunisian’s match was not without problems (7-6(8), 4-6, 6-1).
Ons Jabert, second round of AO qualification – second favorite makes 49 unforced errors
Known for her versatile game, Ons did not have the best day against player Tamara Zidansek (98 WTA – Roland Garros semi-finalist in 2021).
In the first set, Zhaber led 4-1, but lost her rhythm and allowed her opponent to get back on the board. The player from Tunisia won with great emotions, but after a tie-break in which she had to save three set balls (10-8).
The second set went back to the Slovenian (6-4), with Ons making some rather easy errors for her high standards.
The one in which Zhaber distinguished herself from the return was decisive: she was aggressive, accurate, hit the ball from the rise and made three breaks (6-1). The game ended after two hours and 17 minutes.
But it wasn’t a match Zhaber would have been very happy about at the end (barring a win, of course).
The second favorite made unacceptable errors for a long time (49 unforced errors), sometimes had problems with the timing of execution, and the percentage of points won on the first serve was modest (63%).
In fact, Ohns admitted at the end of the game that she had a bad day and that she would analyze Tuesday’s less successful evolution with her team.

Australian Open 2023 will be held from January 16 to 29. The champions of the title were Ashley Barty (now retired from sports) and Rafael Nadal.
