When the Golden Globes returned to NBC on Tuesday night after it was canceled last year due to concerns over the organization of the awards, the question remained whether Hollywood’s biggest stars would return. Many did just that, giving the evening a throwback feel to shows from years past.
But some of the award-winning actresses didn’t make it to the Golden Globes.
Cate Blanchett, who won the award for her role as a virtuoso maestro in Tar, did not attend to accept the award for Best Actress in a Drama. It was reportedly filmed in the UK. And Amanda Seyfried, who also won for her role as Elizabeth Holmes in Screened, was unable to pick up her Golden Globe as she is said to be working on her new musical.
Kevin Costner was unable to accept his Best Actor Award for the TV Drama Series Yellowstone for a different reason: severe storms and flooding in California prevented him from driving from his home in Santa Barbara to Beverly Hills. Nearly 50,000 Californians have been ordered to evacuate, and at least 17 people have died since December last year.
“It’s a sad story,” said Regina Hall, who accepted the award on his behalf. — He’s stuck in Santa Barmara. Let’s all pray together.”
Zendaya, who played a troubled teenager in Euphoria, won Best Actress in a Television Series and also didn’t attend the ceremony. The actress apologized via Instagram for not being able to attend, thanked the Golden Globes, and shared with viewers her admiration for her co-nominations.
