One of the pleasant surprises of the first day at the Australian Open 2023 was Cristina Bucha, a Spaniard born in the Republic of Moldova, who does not publish posts on social networks and has no sponsors.

Kristina Bucha, an atypical tennis player

Outside of social networks, Christina Bucha has no sponsors in the world of tennis, where her colleagues have contracts worth millions of dollars and publish everything on Instagram, writes Marca.

“Social networks mean nothing to me. I’m focused on my person and I don’t like to take a lot of photos and show my life to other people,” said the athlete.

He entered the top 100 after defeating Eva Lys

In the first round of the Australian Open, the Chisinau-born tennis player defeated Eva Lys, 2-6 6-0 6-2, in an outfit she bought with her own money, moving up to No. 100 on the WTA.

“I like to be free, I don’t need a lot of clothes. I have seven T-shirts, seven pants and seven skirts, that’s enough. With clothes, it’s not a big expense. If a sponsor comes, we will discuss,” says Bucha.

He is taught by his father

Christina is fond of reading, psychology, philosophy, and her father is her mentor and coach.

“I don’t know what voltage they use for the racket. Father does everything, it’s always been that way.”

Although she entered the WTA top 100, Bucha remains grounded.

“I like to play match after match. To leave the field with the feeling that I have improved something. I am happy to be in the top 100, but there is nothing extraordinary about it. I see tennis differently than other players,” concluded the 25-year-old Spanish player.
