Sofia Kenin, defeat in the first round by Victoria Azarenka

This year’s edition of the main event in Melbourne offered a matchup of former AO champions.

Sofia Kenin (champion of 2020 – 203 of the world) and Victoria Azarenka (holder of the titles of 2012 and 2013 – 24th favorite) met.

Azarenka won after the match, which lasted two hours and four minutes, the score was 6-4, 7-6(3).

Andreescu and Redukan in the second round

Bianca Andreescu and Emma Reducanu, players of Romanian origin, advanced to the second round of the Australian Open 2023 after winning the first day of the competition in Melbourne.

It took Andreescu an hour and 41 minutes to get past the Czech Republic’s Marie Bouzkova (25th seed), 6-2, 6-4.

Ranked 75th after the unconvincing results of 2022, Redukana was emotionlessly beaten by Tamara Korpach (74th WTA) with a score of 6-3, 6-2. The match lasted an hour and 25 minutes.
