Danielle Collins had a very difficult match in the opening round of the 2023 Australian Open, but last year’s finalist fought to the end and defeated Anna Kalinska after three hours of play.

The day’s No. 13 seed in Melbourne, Danielle was seriously shaky against the Russian, who is ranked No. 59 in the WTA rankings. The American complained about problems with her left knee, but did not give up and won in three sets with a score of 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.
Collins (11 WTA) will play the winner of the match between Karolina Mukhova (133 WTA) and Lesya Tsurenko (134 WTA) in the second round of the Grand Slam in Melbourne.
Danielle Collins achieved a career-best result at the Australian Open 2022 and was only stopped by Ashley Barty on her way to the trophy: the home representative won 6-3, 7-6(2) in the final.
