According to data published by the Ministry of Finance and consulted by Agerpres, in November 2022 the number of positions in public institutions and authorities in Romania was 1,280,003, and about 64% of them were in the central public administration.

Out of the total number of 818,217 employees of the central state administration, 602,622 worked in institutions that are fully financed from the state budget.

The largest number of occupied positions was recorded in the Ministry of Education, respectively 294,207, the Ministry of Internal Affairs – 125,370, the Ministry of National Defense – 74,276, the Ministry of Finance – 24,861 and the Ministry of Health – 18,270.

According to the cited source, 8,279 positions were filled in institutions fully financed from the social insurance budget, 43,980 in those subsidized from the state budget and unemployment insurance budget, while 163,336 positions were filled in institutions, which are fully financed from own revenues.

At the same time, in November 2022, 461,786 people worked in local government bodies, of which 281,706 were in institutions fully financed from local budgets, and 180,080 were in institutions fully or partially financed by own revenues.
