Pep Guardiola’s side made a surprise exit from the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after Southampton won 2-0 to book their place in the semi-finals.
Southampton – Manchester City 2-0, FA Cup quarter-final
Southampton opened the scoring in the 23rd minute thanks to Sekou Mar’s strike from inside the penalty area. Moussa Genepo doubled the lead five minutes later with a 16-yard strike.
Frustrated with the result, Guardiola made three substitutions at half-time and brought on Haaland ten minutes later, but the final score remained the same as it had been in the first half.
The team, coached by Nathan Jones, are in last place in the Premier League and are the main candidates for relegation.
In the semi-finals of the English League Cup, Southampton will meet with Newcastle, and Nottingham Forest will meet with Manchester United.
