Two brothers, Andrew and Tristan Tate, remain in custody after the Bucharest Court of Appeal rejected their appeal against an arrest warrant issued late last year. DIICOT prosecutors accuse the British millionaires of creating an organized crime group, human trafficking and rape.
The two brothers were brought on Tuesday morning, around 9:00, to the Court of Appeal in Bucharest, along with two women who were believed to be their accomplices and were arrested with them.
The court session was held behind closed doors and ended around 3:30 p.m.
Then the court stayed with the decision.
“It was a long day, the defendants testified in the case, the lawyers’ motions were heard by the court. We are waiting for a decision, which, we hope, will be favorable for our clients,” said one of the lawyers of both parties, Yevgen Vidinyak, at the end of the court session.
Two British millionaire brothers, Andrew and Tristan Tate, detained by DIICOT prosecutors on charges of creating an organized criminal group, human trafficking and rape, were pre-arrested for 30 days on December 30, a Bucharest court ruled. Along with them, two young women – a former police officer and the girlfriend of Andrew Tate – were arrested, accused of supporting both in their criminal activities. This measure was challenged in the Bucharest Court of Appeal by the lawyers of the two brothers.
One of the lawyers of the British millionaires, Eugene Vidineak, said that they “strongly deny the commission of these shameful acts”, are trying to prove their innocence and “will do their best to help the investigative authorities to find out the truth”.
“They do not take a position of recognition, they categorically deny the commission of the shameful acts incriminated against them and, of course, together with us, the defenders, are trying to prove their innocence and will help the investigative authorities with everything at their disposal to find out the truth in the case.” , – said Eugene Vidinyak.
In addition, the two British brothers appealed against DIICOT prosecutors’ decision to seize some of their assets, including luxury cars. Eugen Vidiniak, a lawyer for the two brothers, told Hotnews.ro on Thursday that DIICOT’s decision was challenged in a Bucharest court, arguing that “prosecutors’ measures are exaggerated.”
Charges brought by DIICOT against two British brothers
- “At the beginning of 2021, 4 suspects (two citizens of Great Britain and two citizens of Romania) created a criminal group organized to commit the crime of drug trafficking on the territory of Romania, as well as other countries, such as the United States of America. of America and Great Britain,” says the DIICOT press release.
According to DIICOT prosecutors, victims were recruited by British nationals by misleading them about the intention of marriage/cohabitation and the existence of genuine feelings of love (the lover method).
- “They were later transported and placed in houses in the Ilfov district, where they were subjected to sexual exploitation by members of the group through acts of physical violence and psychological coercion (through intimidation, constant surveillance, control and collection of alleged debts), forcing them to view pornographic material. manifestations for the purpose of producing and distributing through social media platforms materials of this nature and by subjugating the performance of work, in a coercive manner, in order to obtain important financial benefits consisting of sums of money obtained as a result of users’ access to the materials,” says DIICOT.
Romanian prosecutors say they have so far identified six victims who were sexually exploited by an organized crime group.
- “Regarding the crime of rape, it was stated that in March 2022, the suspect forced the victim to have sexual intercourse through the use of physical violence and psychological pressure on two separate occasions,” DIICOT prosecutors also stated. specified

Thus, one of the victims was recruited by convincing him that he had arrived from abroad, by misrepresenting the intention to establish a relationship of marriage or cohabitation and the presence of false feelings.
- “Regarding the move to Romania, the victim stated that the defendant initially told him that they would live together, but later told him that there were several men working with him and his brother in the house where he lived, so it was better to get another apartment, only for two.
- At the time when the injured person arrived in Romania, the defendant was not in the country and told the injured person that she would not be able to live in the apartment, she would have to live with … … who bought her a plane ticket, took her from airport and took her to the building where she was going to live (…)
- The victim testified that when the defendant picked her up from the airport, she told her that she would be living with some girls who work for the defendant … and his brother, who have accounts for … and share the earnings with the two of them.
- The victim recalled that he thought it was strange what the defendant was telling him … but he was already in Romania and had nothing to do, thinking that when the defendant returned to Romania, they would live together, as he promised, “it is said in motivating the court.
The judge shows that in relation to the crime of creating an organized criminal group, both the testimony of the victims and the conversations conducted through the statement are important, from which both the hierarchy within the group and the role of each of the participants, who collected young women, who were then transported and placed in homes in Romania.
The court also notes that “from the testimony of the victims and the witnesses heard in the case, a regularity was revealed in the actions of the defendants, which gives weight and credibility to the testimony, taken separately, especially since these testimony are also confirmed by psychological examination reports on the victims, as well as aspects that stem from conversations between the victims and the defendants through the statement.”
The Bucharest court shows that “leaving the accused at large constitutes a danger to public order, and preventive arrest is necessary to eliminate this state of danger, given the particular gravity of the crimes committed by the defendants, the specific way in which they acted, proving that the fundamental disregard for public relations, that are protected by criminal regulations”:
- “In this regard, the judge on rights and freedoms believes that leaving the defendants at large is a danger to public order and it is necessary to choose a preventive measure to eliminate this dangerous situation, taking into account the particular gravity of the crime. the crimes committed by the defendants, the specific manner in which they acted, demonstrating a fundamental contempt for social relations protected by criminal norms.
- (…) one cannot deny the profound lack of respect for legal norms and complete indifference to protected social values shown by the defendant … …, but also the contemptuous attitude towards women in general, which he perceives only as a means of easily obtaining large earnings .
- The judge cannot agree with the statement of the defense that only one hero is depicted on these video materials and cannot be taken into account, since the defendant demonstrates the same attitude in relations with the victims, and this is clearly visible from the content of conversations with them revealed in the materials criminal proceedings”.
“I will be the last man in your life”
A Bucharest court said two brothers picked up young women on the pretext of starting a romantic relationship, then took them to a house with other girls and forced them to make videos that were later posted on adult websites for a fee. in the decree on the preventive arrest of two millionaire brothers.

- Emory: What will we do if we fall in love and I kidnap you and bring you to Bucharest?
- Girl: I don’t think it’s kidnapping if I want to come.
- Emory: First, I have to see in your eyes that you can never live without me. And then I can trust you to show me everything.
- Girl: Bring the ring with you when you come.
- Emory: Can you be loving enough to be a wife? To always be by my side, wherever I go? Talk to no man but me? Ride or die?
- Emory: You have to move to Romania with me to keep an eye on you.
- Emory: You’re mine. Don’t forget about it. And act like it. We will be together soon.
- Girl: But can I trust you?
- Emory: Yes. You can.
- Emory: You will move to Romania with me. I plan when I get there. First, I might have to go to Prague for a few days.
- Emory: And we met in Romania.
- Emory: And I want to know that you’re determined
- Emory: Seriously about marriage.
- Girl: Yes. I’m serious.”
“Belongs to Tate”
The victims of two British brothers, Andrew and Tristan Tate, told investigators that when they first arrived at the two’s villa, where a video chat studio had been set up, they were met by armed guards. In addition, young women would be forced to get a tattoo saying “belongs to Tate”.
Ioan Gliga, a lawyer for the Tate brothers, told Digi 24 that the women would have gotten the tattoos on their own initiative:
“I would understand this gesture by the persons concerned to be a gesture to make the Tate brothers as pleasant as possible, and at no time was there any conditioning or coercion to make such a gesture, and it was of their own free will.”
