The lists of Russian soldiers who died during the terrorist attack on January 1 in Makiivka in eastern Ukraine will not be published, the Russian military commissar said on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reports.
“No lists will be published,” said the military commissar of the Samara region, Oleksiy Vdovin, as quoted by the RIA Novosti agency, as reported by CNN and News.ro.
“Firstly, this is personal data, and secondly, of course, this is the work that will be carried out by foreign special services to identify and carry out information activities on relatives of military personnel, which is strictly prohibited,” he argued. commissioner.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Russia reported that 89 Russian servicemen were killed as a result of the Ukrainian attack on the vocational training center in Makiivtsi, occupied by Russia and turned into a barracks. The attack took place on New Year’s Eve, and the Ukrainian army says the death toll is much higher, initially suggesting that up to 400 Russian soldiers were killed.
CNN said it could not independently verify the death toll reported by either side, but the strike was one of the heaviest losses Moscow has suffered since the conflict in Ukraine began. Russia has a tradition of not recognizing real losses.
