Book Aid International is giving away books for the first time to Nigerian displaced people and Ukrainian refugees in Poland as part of its strategy to reach communities that face barriers to reading. New Louis Aragon

In May 2022, a Lyon-based art dealer became the owner of an authentic Louis Aragon manuscript, local daily Le Progrès reported. The poem, written in 1943 in the capital of Gaul, is entitled “Lyon les mysteries” (Lyon, mysteries) and describes the atmosphere that prevailed in the city during the Second World War. The poet fled to the city with his partner, as well as the writer Elsa Triolet, to hide and avoid persecution. During his illegal stay there, he wrote two such masterpieces: “Aurélien” and “There is no happy love.” In response to an inquiry from the Progrès newspaper, the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) confirmed that the Aragon Foundation does not have the poem’s manuscript, and the owner is now selling the manuscript for 7,500 euros.
