In March 2022, Romanian center Ovidiu Hatcegan suffered a heart attack and was urgently operated on in Timisoara. Since then, the Arada native has only been an assistant in the VAR room.

Almost a year after a heart attack, center Ovidiu Hatsegan is ready to return to the field.
The 42-year-old Romanian referee was present on Tuesday at the National Football Center in Buft, where he underwent some physical tests.
The center from Arad said that his tests turned out to be hopelessly good and that he wants to return to the football field as soon as possible.
As ProSport reports, Ovidiu Hatcegan will be able to serve the final matches of this season in the Romanian Super League.
“It is not very difficult to guess. After what I’ve been through, I want to be healthy. This is the main goal, and I want to enjoy every moment I live. It was, to put it mildly, a different period, because I had such a vacation, which I had not had in my entire life, forced.
It also worked out well for me, I spent a lot more time with my family, I enjoyed other things that I missed in those years when I was traveling a lot.” – he said Ovidiu Khatsegan.
“I feel very good at the moment. The medical tests are far exceeding mine and the doctors expectations, but I’m taking it slow.
That’s why I came today, passed only part of the tests, wanted to be with colleagues again, an extremely pleasant feeling.
This morning, before I came, I took my boots, which I had not worn for about nine months. This is the first time since the last game. I had a strong experience and it was the same when I got the jersey with the number. I was happy, honestly.” – added the central office in Arad.
The Romanian referee also told what thoughts came to his head immediately after he left the operating room.
“After I left the operating room, I set certain things for myself. One of them is to enjoy every moment of your life.
I have no fear, no matter what happens, because from now on, every day is a bonus for me. My desire is to return to the field. Let’s see if it happens again or not. I am currently on the list.” – he said Haţegan.
“Of course, if everything goes well, but here God will decide, and we will see. I don’t want to go back just to go back. I want to return to the highest level. If I can’t do it, obviously I’m not going to do it just to be on the pitch.” – concluded Ovidiu Khatsegan.
The last match under the leadership of Ovidiu Hatcegan was Lyon – Porto (1-1, March 17, 2022) in the UEFA Europa League.
