A few years ago, they almost did not exist and were completely unknown to the general public. These are, obviously, anti-noise radars, or sound radars. And the least we can say is that we’ll have to get used to their presence better when there should be more and more of them on our roads in the coming years. Today, seven cities have already volunteered to conduct the experiment. These are Paris, Toulouse, Nice, Bron (69), Villeneuve-les-Roi (94), Rueil-Malmaison (92) and Saint-Lambert-des-Bois (78), where several radars are then installed at the edge of roads. The goal? Watch out for excessively noisy vehicles, especially modified motorcycles.
An automatic speed camera on the RD 137 in St Sulpice d’Arnoult has been terrorizing drivers in recent days, flashing as they obey the speed limit!
This radar was undergoing maintenance. Therefore, there will be no verbalization. Thanks to the whistleblowers!– Gendarmerie of Primorsky Charante (@Gendarmerie_017) September 16, 2021
Lowered threshold
At the beginning of the experimental phase, which began last year, the organization Bruitparif, responsible for measuring noise in Ile-de-France, then announced a maximum threshold of 90 decibels for the verbalization of vehicles passing in front of the radar. But now everything has changed a bit, when the director of the organization finally announced that the trigger threshold will be between 85 and 90 decibels. Although the difference may seem small, it is still relatively significant. And so, finally, a few weeks later, the exact figure was recorded: 83 decibels. In addition, cars and motorcycles will be machine stitched.

Some indents
This figure remains significantly higher than the 72dB that new cars are approved for, while motorcycles are rated at 80dB. However, exceptions will be made on some old vehicles, as well as on agricultural machinery. In any case, these radars seem to be quite productive, although they record an average of 42 violations per day. As a reminder, the amount of the fine is 135 euros, but the fine has not yet been sent, as the cabins are still at the experimental stage.
