Do you want to leave your father’s house? – SYRIZA “How To” Campaign Continues

Another video from his campaign SYRIZA As– addressed to boys and girls aged 17-24. The video in question combines the search for housing for young people with low wages.

SYRIZA President Al. Tsipras notes in a social media post: “Do you want to leave your father’s house? Everything is very simple … or not?

SYRIZA emphasizes that “the deprivation of material conditions for independent living is such that it prevents independence from the paternal/maternal family and condemns young men and women to a regime of permanent insecurity, labor, economic and more, with all the consequences of their expectations of life. Categorically, the concerns of the youth in Greece are “practical” and material. The cycle of instability shows a rapid decline in life satisfaction and an increase in uncertainty about the future.

“There is a generation that is forced to live up to more than 30 years with their parents, that is, humiliated in emancipation, in the formation of personality, humiliated in the very joy of youth. At the same time, the Greek labor market is characterized by a high and widespread degree of instability.

Insecurity in its various forms (employment insecurity, underemployment, informal employment, low wages and pay gaps, etc.) mainly affects women and young workers,” he adds.

“Greece registers the highest youth unemployment rate (under 25) at 29.5% according to Eurostat as of June 2022, while due to the extended precarious employment regime, a large percentage of young workers are paid less than 500 euros.

There is a sharp increase in the number of working poor people in our country who are unable to meet even their basic needs.

The inability of an alarmingly large proportion of workers, even those with stable employment, to satisfy their household needs is clearly shown, while the fact that basic inelastic costs (housing, food, electricity bills, etc.) have been exhausted or exceeded is confirmed. the amount of income of citizens from their labor activity.

At the same time, this situation also increases the feeling of frustration/dissatisfaction with the job, as the issue of survival is intertwined with the issue of recognition.

In the shadow of alternating crises, the absolute dominance of negative emotions among the youth of our country is not surprising. But the cycle of low expectations and despair cannot continue. Negative emotions such as anger or fear can turn into affirmative and productive demands for democracy, participation and justice.

Therefore, the proposal of SYRIZA – the Progressive Alliance at this age encourages them to claim a life outside / outside the children’s room, to destroy these walls that have become walls for their living conditions.

  • The tip of the spear is an immediate increase in the minimum wage to 800 euros, but already in the midst of an inflationary crisis and the adoption of a price indexation mechanism.
  • Thus, in the current year, with inflation of 10%, the minimum wage will be 880 euros.
  • Repeal of the laws of Hatzidakis.
  • Rent doubling for youth and young couples aged 24 to 44: €140 per month for a one-person family, €280 per month for a couple with one child, €350 per month for a couple with two children. Expansion of income criteria.
  • Airbnb controls and policies.
  • Creation of a housing bank from existing apartments and houses, which will be given priority to new couples with low rents.
