Buzkova, who is ranked 26th in the world, won after a tense match that lasted two hours and 8 minutes.

Jacqueline Christian (143 WTA) led 5-2 in the first set and 2-0 in the second, but ended the match without winning a set.

For participating in the main draw in Hobart, Jacqueline Christian will receive $2,804 and one point in the WTA singles ranking.

Romania has another singles representative in Hobart with Patricia Sieg taking on Jasmin Paolini.

Also, Monica Niculescu performs in a pair with the British Alicia Barnett.

The Hobart International is contested on hard from January 9 to 14, is part of the WTA 250 category, has a total prize pool of $259,303, and the most recent champion is Olena Rybakina (in 2020).
