ABC reported Walters’ death.

Winner of 12 Emmy awards.

During nearly four decades of work at ABC, and before that at NBC, Walters’ exclusive interviews with leaders, kings and people from the entertainment industry earned him celebrity status, News.ro writes. Walters has interviewed many world leaders, including Fidel Castro, Margaret Thatcher, Muammar Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, and every US president and first lady since Richard and Pat Nixon.

She has won 12 Emmy Awards, including 11 while at ABC News, according to the television network.

Walter began his career as a journalist on NBC’s The Today Show in the 1960s. She was the first news anchor, alongside Harry Reasoner, with an unprecedented annual salary of $1 million, which drew suspicion and criticism.

She was a natural in front of the camera, especially when asking special questions. “I’m not afraid when I do interviews,” Walters told The Associated Press in 2008.

Oprah Winfrey: Without her, neither I nor any other woman you see in the news would exist

Oprah Winfrey responded by saying that without Barbara Walters, neither she nor any other woman in the news would exist. Arianna Huffington spoke of Walters as “a legend and a trailblazer who had a tremendous impact on journalism.”

  • “Without Barbara Walters, there would be no me and no other woman you see on the evening, morning and daily news. She was truly a pioneer. I spent my first TV audition with her in mind all the time,” Oprah Winfrey wrote on Facebook, expressing her gratitude for meeting Walters.

Also, Oprah Winfrey published a photo with Barbara Walters.

And Arianna Huffington called Walters a trailblazer.

  • “Barbara Walters died this evening at her home in New York. A legend and trailblazer who had a huge impact on journalism and our culture. On a personal level, I am grateful for the important role Barbara has played in my life, particularly as my oldest daughter’s beloved godmother. She was there for me in important and personal moments. I will forever remember this day of Christina’s baptism. I love you Barbara!” she wrote, posting the photo.
