Ridley Scott chose 26-year-old Irish actor Paul Meskal as the main character of the new film.

The young actor is in talks for the role. David Scarpa, who had already written All the Money in the World and Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, was chosen to write the screenplay for Gladiator 2.

Paul Mezcal, known for his role in the miniseries Normal People (2020), who received rave reviews for his new film After the Sun, will play not Maximus but Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and the nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix ).

Ridley Scott hoped to direct this sequel. He wanted to do it with Russell Crowe (despite the death of his character). “I know how to get him back,” he told Entertainment Weekly in 2017. – Will it happen? I do not know. “Gladiator” was released in 2000. Russell has changed a bit.”

Released in 2000, Gladiator was a huge success, grossing $460 million at the worldwide box office. The blockbuster was nominated for an Oscar twelve times and won five, including statuettes for “Best Picture” and “Best Actor” for Russell Crowe. (news.ro)
