In April 2022, through GEO 27, the selling price of natural gas for suppliers supplying gas to the population was capped at 0.15 lei/kWh without VAT, says Dumitru Kiselice, president of the Intelligent Energy Association.

However, he says, the price cap for households inexplicably remains at almost double – 0.31 lei/kWh including VAT, which forces all major gas suppliers to households to maintain high prices.

According to him, the gas purchased by suppliers for household consumers was capped at 0.15 lei/kWh from producers for almost a year, adding 0.009 lei/kWh to transport costs, 0.035 lei/kWh to distribution costs and 0.0075 lei/kWh to regulated costs. as suppliers, we receive a price of gas for the population of 0.239 lei/kWh including VAT.

  • In these unclear conditions, we maintained the marginal price at the level of 0.31 lei/kWh including VAT (29% more) for more than 1 year and for the next 2 years.

“This value of the capped price causes a false increase in the price of gas on the Romanian market. On the ANRE platform, almost all major suppliers offer gas at a price of 0.31 lei/kWh including VAT, thus artificially blocking the reduction of gas. prices for the population,” said the president of the “Intellectual Energy” Association.

The association requests an urgent analysis of the removal of the ceiling:

  • 0.31 lei/kWh with VAT and its replacement by 0.24 lei/kWh with VAT for household consumers.
  • 0.37 lei/kWh with VAT and its replacement by 0.30 lei/kWh with VAT for non-household consumers.

“Such actions would correspond to the international trends of lowering the price of gas and would have a positive impact on the work of companies and the reduction of energy poverty in Romania,” he says.
