
Germany is the largest net payer in the European Union, a calculation by the press agency DPA confirmed these days. The study claims that in 2021, Germany paid 25.1 billion euros more to the EU budget than it received from the Union. France is in second place with a net payment of 12.4 billion euros.
Relatively similar figures – albeit with a difference of several billions – also emerge from the calculations of the German Economic Institute (IW). According to her, in 2021, Germany paid 21.4 billion euros more to Brussels than it received. Here, too, France ranks second with net payments almost twice as large – 10.9 billion euros.
