We understand that the most common reaction someone has when they see the new electric Fiat 500 is that it’s another … five hundredth just with an “electric heart”. This is partly true, but the sensations that he will give you from the first steps behind the wheel are completely different.

The Italians have managed to instill everything in the DNA of the 500 name badge into the new electric 500. It is so different yet so recognizable from the regular 500, and it is the first electric city model that manages to be exactly the same size in order to have 3 different bodies: hatchback, convertible and 3 + 1. The only thing that sets the Fiat 500e 3+1 apart from all other versions is the extra door on the passenger side, which opens forward to make it easier for rear passengers to get in and out. It is reasonable to ask, just what? We give the answer that you don’t need anything else! For this feature alone, it scores 500e points for practicality, helping the owners in their daily life. The lack of a B-pillar on the right side affects the rigidity of the car and small squeaks are noticeable mainly due to the absence of other noises (these electric vehicles have them). But the decision makers have put in some reinforcements, adding a total of 30kg more than the hatchback to improve safety, eliminate the distortion and vibration that the driver can feel behind the wheel, which is achieved with complete success.

Along with practicality comes decent passenger comfort and tolerable space for a model in this category. In other words, you can travel with the essentials in 185 liters of luggage space, but the rear passengers must be small children, otherwise they will need frequent rest stops.

As we mentioned above, the car was designed from scratch, and this can be seen from the interior, where it bears little resemblance to the Fiat 500 with a heat engine. In this case we find a dashboard made of excellent quality materials and very well assembled. In the center is a 10.25-inch touchscreen that launches Uconnect5 with beautiful graphics. This includes all modern connectivity methods such as 5G networks and wireless mirroring of your smartphone (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto). Embossed elements such as the classic ‘500’ on the door handles and the Torino-specific layout enhance the interior’s aesthetics. Behind the wheel is a 7-inch screen that acts as a digital dashboard and displays all the information the driver needs.

Under the hood is a 118 hp electric motor. with a torque of 220 Nm, which is combined with a 42 kWh battery (37.3 kWh usable), which allows a small model to drive around the city up to 462 km on a single charge. In real (and mixed conditions) we managed to cover between 270 and 300 km and with a consumption of 12 to 13 kWh / 100 km. In addition, on the plus side, it can be quickly charged via the Wallbox (in about 4 hours from 11 kWh). The Fiat 500e 3+1 has three driving modes: Normal, Range and Sherpa, with the latter reducing engine power, lowering the top speed to 80 km/h, and the air conditioning system “not powerful enough” to provide the most autonomy.

On the road, the 500e feels like a larger class car and is quiet. Of course, if the value on the speedometer exceeds 100 km / h, some aerodynamic noise does not interfere. However, the car is mainly for the city, and the light steering cuts a lot.
