Russia sent a kamikaze drone emblazoned with the words “Happy New Year” in a massive wave of drone attacks that began on New Year’s Eve in Ukrainian cities, Business Insider reports.
The publication cites Kyiv police chief Andriy Nebitov, who posted an image of a drone on Facebook after the terrorist attacks that took place in several Ukrainian cities on New Year’s Eve and in the early hours of the new year.
The images show the message “Happy New Year!!!” written in Russian on a fragment of the remains of a drone. It also features cartoons, a wrapped present, and a bomb with the word “boom” on it.
The drone was identified as Geran-2, the Russian name for the Shahed-136 drones that the Russians buy from Iran and launch in large numbers over Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials reported that on the night of December 31, 45 such drones were shot down, including 32 over Kyiv.
Nebytov wrote that the drone in the footage fell on the playground. He doesn’t say if he was knocked down or if he fell there.
In the last hours of 2022, Russia carried out drone attacks on several Ukrainian cities. According to the leadership of the Ukrainian army, all Iranian-made Shahed drones were shot down without reaching their targets. Many of these drones were aimed at the capital Kyiv and Kharkiv, located in northeastern Ukraine.
