The Romanian Tennis Federation announced on Thursday, December 29, the names of the country’s best players for the recently concluded 2022 season. Simona Halep was named “player of the year”.

Simona Halep and Nicolas David Ionel, the best in 2022 according to FRT

During this year, Halep triumphed at the Melbourne Summer Set (WTA 250) and Toronto (WTA 1000 category) tournaments.

Currently, Simona is temporarily disqualified for doping, as our athlete failed the anti-doping test conducted during the US Open 2022 (prohibited substance – Roxadustat).

Halep finished the year ranked 10th in the WTA rankings.

In 2022, Simona Halep won 39 matches and lost 11. She collected $2,253,197 in tennis prizes alone.

Australian Open – eliminated in the 1/8 finals.

Roland Garros – eliminated in the second round.

Wimbledon – eliminated in the semi-finals.

US Open – eliminated in the first round.

Nicolas David Ionel, who is ranked 229 in the ATP ranking, was named the best singles player.

This year Mykola won the ITF tournaments in Sharm el-Sheikh, Marrakech, Pitesti and Gaziantep.
