
On the basis of Decree No. 17 del 13 de enero de 2022, the President of the Republic of Argentina, Alberto Fernández Sr., declared the year ending “a year of commemoration of the fallen in the conflict in the Malvinas Islands.” […]as well as to veterans and veterans of the Malvinas,” the Embassy of Argentina in Bucharest said.
On this occasion, the Romanian Solidarity Group with the Malvinas Islands held a series of events dedicated to these events. Given the pandemic and post-pandemic context, most events were organized virtually (online) as well as in person.
A series of meetings, debates, formal and informal talks were held, attended by many members of the Romanian Solidarity Group, academics, students, diplomats and various people interested in learning more about the political and legal situation in the Malvinas and the military conflict. which took place in 1982.
Most of the participants in the discussion and debate insisted on the need to find a peaceful solution to this conflict in accordance with numerous resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the principles of international law.
On the occasion of the traditional meeting at the end of the year of the members of the Romanian Solidarity Group with the Malvinas Islands, Professor Razvan Pantelimon, coordinator of the Group, made a short speech: “This year we commemorate and pay tribute together with Nación Argentina, a las víctimas de una guerra illegitima. Defeat in this war marked the end of one of the bloodiest military dictatorships in Latin America and the beginning of the Argentine people’s transition to democracy.
In the current context of the war in Ukraine in our immediate neighbors, we consider it even more important to find peaceful and negotiated solutions to disputes and international conflicts that exclude innocent victims and that comply with the decisions of international organizations and the principles of international law.
The Romanian group “Solidaridad” with the Malvinas promoted and continues to support only peaceful solutions that exclude any military conflict, so that tragedies like the ones we are seeing now do not happen anywhere in the world.
During 2023, the Romanian Solidarity Group with the Malvinas Islands will continue the above activities to make visible the issue of the Malvinas Islands and draw attention to the need for the United Kingdom to negotiate with the Republic of Argentina for a peaceful solution to the dispute de soberanía conforme al derecho internacional.
