Michael Bloomberg, a billionaire businessman and media mogul, is interested in acquiring either the parent company of the Wall Street Journal, Dow Jonesor so The Washington Post claims Axios.
80-year-old Bloomberg wants to buy from one of two billionaire tycoons – 91-year-old Rupert Murdoch, who controls Dow Jones, or 58-year-old Jeff Bezos, who owns The Washington Post.
Bloomberg wants to expand his media empire and believes that Dow Jones is a perfect fit for him.
A combination of The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg would instantly create a business media colossus.
So far, Bloomberg has not reached out to Murdoch.
Additionally, a spokesperson for The Post told Axios, “The Post is not for sale.”
Bloomberg has long coveted premium publications, with The Times and the Financial Times at the top of the list.
It is partly a prestige move. Bloomberg believes he never got the credit he deserves for building a global news empire that churns out 5,000 articles a day to more than 325,000 subscribers.
