M. Spirakis: I will also ask for the suspension of my party status

The MEP from the New Democracy intends to demand the suspension of its party status. Maria Spirakifollowing a request by the Attorney General of Europe to have her immunity lifted, as well as that of Eva Kylie.

In particular, she stated that she would apply for the suspension of her party status pending clarification of the case, which she claimed would last two to three months.

She specified that today she would send a corresponding letter to Mr. Pavlos Marinakis, about which she had already informed her side.

In an interview with ERT, Ms Spiraki reiterated that she was receiving her lift her immunity and will do everything possible to solve this case immediately.

It is recalled that the specific lifting of immunity concerns Ms Spirakis and Ms Kailis and has nothing to do with the Qatargate scandal. On the contrary, it concerns suspicions of fraud with the EU budget, regarding the management of parliamentary remuneration and, in particular, the remuneration of accredited parliamentary assistants.

“I gladly accept the lifting of my immunity so that this case is fully clarified and leaves no shadow behind. The matter concerns my responsibility for managing the budget of the department, which is in no way connected with the money that the deputy receives in his own hands,” the MEP said.

As she explained, the case concerns her former partner, who was absent several times while receiving benefits for work abroad. This responsibility lies with both individuals and members of parliament. In this context, Ms. Spyrachi explained that she had nothing to do with this person.

And, as he said, the process must move very quickly. “I will do this with the intention of depriving SYRIZA of any opportunity to attack New Democracy,” he added.

“When this case clears up, I await the announcement of SYRIZA with an apology from the capital. Although he is not used to it,” he added.

Ms Spiraki declined to say whether she spoke to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, saying we should stick to the point, which is the suspension of her party status.

“It is important for each of us who are at the center of the matter to contribute to our faction. In this way, I avoid the transfer of weapons to SYRIZA until the completion of the investigation process,” explained the ND MEP.

Mitsotakis: ‘Very serious’ Spirakis case

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis commented very briefly on the case of Maria Spirakis yesterday at a press conference after the summit.

In response to a related question, Mr. Mitsotakis described the case as “very serious”.

Finally, he noted that he did not have a complete picture of the whole issue. “I will return to Athens to study the issue and answer tomorrow,” he added.
