The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, during his visit to the White House, presented Joe Biden with a military cross of a Ukrainian soldier, the captain of the American HIMARS battery, which he wanted to hand over to the US president, CNN reports.

Zelensky thanked Biden and the US Congress for supporting Ukraine, and also expressed his gratitude to the American people.

“Thank you very much, Mr. President. Of course, thank you for the bipartisan support, thank you to Congress, and thank you from our ordinary people to your ordinary people, the American people. I really appreciate it,” he said.

Zelenskyy then presented Biden with a military medal, which, he said, he handed over from a Ukrainian army captain who fought in Donbas.

“Yesterday I was in Bakhmut, in Donbas… and I would like to offer you something. A guy who is really a hero, a real captain, asked me to give him the award. And he asked me to give it to President Biden. You will understand, he is a captain in the HIMARS battery… And I want to present you, this is the Combat Merit Cross. It is from him, yes, and he also sent a message… He said that many of his comrades were saved by this HIMARS system,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained.

“Well, undeserved, but very much appreciated,” Biden said after receiving the gift. He thanked Zelenskyi and promised in return to send the Ukrainian captain a US military medal from Iraq, where his son Bo fought.
