
CFR SA and the RailWorks Association, formed by the companies SC ARCADA (Romania) and SC Alstom Transport SA (France), signed a contract worth 1.53 billion lei for the development of the technical project and the implementation of electrification and modernization works. infrastructure and superstructure of the railway on the Aguireş – Poeni section. The distance between the two cities is 37 km, and trains take between 37 and 65 minutes.
Trains with few stops reach a maximum speed of 80 km/h on some sections and up to 100 km/h on only a few kilometres. There are six intermediate stops between the two cities. 37 minutes are trains that have only two stops.

The National Railway Company CFR SA and the RailWorks Association, formed by SC ARCADA Company (Romania) and SC Alstom Transport SA (France), signed on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, a contract for 1.53 billion lei for the development of the technical project and the implementation of electrification and modernization railway infrastructure and superstructures on the section AGHIREȘ – POIENI (LOT 2), related to the purpose of “Electrification and restoration of the railway line Cluj-Napoca – Oradea – Bishopric of Bihor (166.2 km)”, is financed by non-refundable funds provided for in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Component 4 – Sustainable Transport.
The RailWorks Association, formed by SC ARCADA COMPANY (Romania) and SC Alstom Transport SA (France), will develop a technical project and carry out works on the electrification and modernization of the railway infrastructure and superstructure for a maximum speed of 160 km/h for the entire section Aghireș – Poieni, with a length of 36 ,53 km, construction works at Huedin and Poieni stations, Stana and Brăișoru junctions, stops – Aghireș, Jebuc and Bologa, modernization of works of art – 3 bridges, 67 pedestrian bridges, 2 tunnels in Stana, 298 m long (I wire), respectively 320 m (II wire), 1 overpass, 1 uneven crossing (eco-wire), automatic signaling at 16 crossings with the railway, specific railway operation works, such as signaling works for the implementation of the ERTMS system (level 2 ETCS and GSM -R) on the entire route.
In addition, as part of the works related to the distance AGHIREȘ – POIENI, the following public and railway goals are included:
- Huedin pedestrian underpass (new construction)
- new passenger building at Poeni station;
- sound-absorbing panels with a total length of 11,748 km;
- loading and unloading ramp at Khuedyn station;
- a new traction substation near the Poeni station.
The term of the contract is 42 months, of which 6 months are for design and 36 months are for execution of works.
The railway line Cluj-Napoca – Oradea – Bishopric of Bihor – Frontier receives funding under the PNRR and is also included in the Investment Plan for the development of railway infrastructure for the period 2020-2030.
