By decision of the president of the New Democracy party, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the status of a member of the European Parliament from the New Democracy party has been suspended. Maria Spirakiuntil the completion of the investigation of the case in which it is under control.

As long as the aforementioned suspension decision is in effect, Maria Spyraki will not be a candidate for New Democracy in the 1st Thessaloniki in the next national elections.

The ND MEP has previously stated that she herself intended to ask for the suspension of her party status, while she also accepts removal of her immunity at the request of the Attorney General of Europe.

As he told ERT, he will do his best to fully clarify this matter and “leave no shadow”.

As she explained, the case concerns her former partner, who was absent several times while receiving benefits for work abroad. He stated that this responsibility lies with both the individual and the member of parliament.

In this context, Ms. Spyrachi explained that she had nothing to do with this person.

Finally, he estimated that the case would take two to three months to resolve, but did not say whether he contacted Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

It is recalled that the request of the European Parliament to lift the immunity of Maria Spirakis and Eva Kylie does not apply to the scandal with Qatargate. On the contrary, it concerns suspicions of fraud with the EU budget, regarding the management of parliamentary remuneration and, in particular, the remuneration of accredited parliamentary assistants.
