
President Klaus Iohannis will receive his counterpart from the Portuguese Republic, Marcela Rebela de Souza, on Tuesday, on the occasion of his visit to Romania, at the 1st training battalion “Alt” in Caracal, the presidential administration said.
According to the cited source, the Portuguese president’s visit is taking place in the context of intensive high-level bilateral dialogue, as well as work and close coordination within the framework of the European Union and NATO.
Defense is one of the key areas of bilateral cooperation. Portugal is participating in NATO’s multinational force in Romania to reinforce the Allies’ defenses on the eastern flank, with a contingent of ground forces stationed at Caracal.
The presidential administration indicates that the agenda of the talks between the two heads of state will include aspects related to the intensification of Romanian-Portuguese defense cooperation, as well as economic, commercial, digital, renewable energy, health and education agendas. .
