Lothar Mattheus sharply criticizes Cristiano Ronaldo

Former Germany captain Lothar Matthaus has hit back at Cristiano Ronaldo after his performance and Portugal’s elimination from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“With his ego, Ronaldo harmed the team and himself. No doubt he was a great player, but now his legend is suffering. It’s hard to believe that he can still find a place in the team,” Matthaus said, according to Marca.

Portugal crashed out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals after being knocked out by Morocco, with Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench for the last two games.

“He is the biggest failure of the World Cup, the complete opposite of Lionel Messi,” claims the former player.

Lionel Messi, the player of the millennium for Matthaus

Lothar Matthaus was full of praise for the performance of Argentina and captain Lionel Messi in particular.

“Messi is an absolute winner. He deserves it because he has brought great joy to all football fans with his qualities and his way of playing. And he did it for 17-18 years. For me, Lionel Messi is the footballer of the millennium,” Matthäus believes.
