Presented at the beginning of the year at the CES 2022 exhibition in Las Vegas PnD (Plug & Drive) modular platform the Hyundai group enables the development of robotic applications based on its know-how in the field of autonomous and connected vehicles.

This platform combines intelligent steering, braking, electric traction in the wheels and suspension systems, as well as a steering drive that allows you to turn 360°. Thanks to camera sensors and LiDAR sensors, it can also navigate itself, determining the best route to reach its destination.

Hyundai is developing autonomous robots

The Korean manufacturer has just presented the first applications of this new technological platform in the form of autonomous works in a hotel and residential and commercial complex, in the Seoul area, in South Korea:

“Delivery robots based on the PnD platform offer reduced delivery times and increased safety through the use of autonomous driving technologies, including rapid obstacle avoidance systems. With these pilot projects, we intend to continue to improve mobility services, convenience, safety and accessibility for customers.”said Dong Jin Hyun, director of Hyundai Motor Group’s robotics laboratory.

Hyundai: autonomous hotel room service

One of the group’s pilot projects in this area was created in the village ofRolling Hills Hotelwith autonomous robot who provides chambermaid from 20:00 to 22:00: Customers can order their groceries, food and beverages through the messaging app “Kakao Talk”, which allows them to monitor the delivery status in real time.

This robot is able to recognize its surroundings and the people it meets, avoid obstacles and collisions, and also to move independently across the floors thanks to the elevators: approaching the room, he discovers the door opening and recognizes the customer, to whom he opens his storage room containing the ordered food. A screen placed on his head can display messages, but he can also communicate by voice.

Hyundai: door-to-door delivery.

Hyundai also provided Brothers VuovKorean delivery company, an autonomous robot for its last mile delivery service.. It is used to provide door-to-door (D2D) food delivery services in a residential and commercial complex located in the Seoul area.

A customer places an order using an app called Baemin, and a robot picks up the desired product at the mall before delivering it directly to the customer. Thanks to wireless communication, the robot has access to entrances of buildings and elevators.

These fully autonomous service works is a radical innovation in last mile delivery that is expected to grow in the logistics and retail sectors.
