We have “February snow” in mid-December, the local weather service explains, recalling that the last time such snowfalls were in 1989 and 1993.

For his part, the head of the meteorological center says that the record of 34 centimeters of snow in 1941, when Nazi Germany attacked the USSR, has been exceeded.

About 12,500 cars and 119,000 people were involved in removing snow from the streets, the Moscow City Hall reported.

In many parts of the city, buses are stuck in the snow and it is barely possible to pass both roads and sidewalks hidden under the snow.

More than 40 flights have been canceled at Moscow airports due to weather conditions.
