There will be no impunity and nothing will be swept under the carpet, European Parliament President Roberta Metzola stressed over the corruption scandal that erupted in the European Parliament when she arrived at the summit in Brussels on Thursday.
“I will be talking about criminal charges against the European Parliament, which is a blow to democracy and a blow to everything we have been working on for years. It takes years to build trust, but it only takes a moment to destroy it,” the Italian politician said.
“My message will be that there will be no impunity, nothing will be swept under the rug, this will not be ‘business as usual’. I will do everything in my power, together with my colleagues, to restore the position (of the European Parliament) as the home of democracy. As a co-founder, as an institution that is transparent, clean and not sold to foreign players that seem to undermine us,” Ms. Metsola said.
He also noted that pressure will continue “for a decision on the natural gas ceiling”, while stressing that the Ukrainian issue remains on the agenda.
