Famous Iranian actress and women’s rights activist Taraneh Aliduosti was arrested on Saturday after supporting a protest movement that entered its fourth month, judicial authorities and the media announced, AFP reported.
Known for appearing in several films directed by Asghar Farhadi, Tarane Aliduosti has repeatedly taken to Instagram to support the protests sparked by the death of young Mahsa Amini on September 16 after she was arrested in Tehran by morality police who accused her of improperly wearing the hijab.
“Taraneh Aliduosti has been arrested for her recent actions, publishing false information and content, and for inciting chaos,” Tasnim news agency announced, without specifying the location of the arrest.
Iran’s judiciary confirmed the arrest on its order. “Following unsubstantiated comments on recent events and the publication of provocative material in support of street riots by a number of celebrities in recent weeks… some of these people have been arrested “”Taraneh Aliduosti, who did not provide documents to support some of his accusations”, – among those arrested, the judiciary agency Mizan Online reports.
The 38-year-old actress, in particular, condemned the December 8 hanging of Mohsen Shekari, who was executed after being accused of “warring against God.”
“Any international organization that watches this bloodshed without reacting is a disgrace to humanity,” Tarane Aliduosty wrote on her Instagram page.
In November, she vowed to stay in Iran to “pay the price” needed to protect her rights and stop working to support the families of those killed or arrested during the demonstrations.
His most famous role is in Asghar Farhadi’s The Client, which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2017.
A figure in Iranian cinema since her teenage years, Taraneh Alidusti also starred in Said Rustai’s Leila and Her Brothers, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Several Iranian film figures were investigated or arrested before the current wave of protests, such as filmmakers Mohammad Rasulof and Jafar Panahi, who are still in custody.
According to judicial authorities, thousands of Iranians and about 40 foreigners have been arrested since mid-September, and more than 2,000 people have been charged in connection with the protests. Two 23-year-olds were also hanged. (Agerpress)
