PSD President Marcel Čolaku sent an official letter inviting Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehhammer to come to Romania on Friday. Cholaku tells the Austrian official that this is the only way he can be convinced of the efforts of our country and our people to join the Schengen zone.

The PSD president also tells the Austrian leader that Romanians are “as European as Austrians” and he should not forget that Romania is “on the front line with Russia” and “we care a lot about our borders”.

“Mr. Chancellor,

Because of your decision, 19 million Romanians were deprived of their legal right to be part of the Schengen area. If your decision was correct, today Romania should enjoy an hour of brotherhood with all of Europe.

Because we are Europeans just like Austrians. We share the same values ​​and aspirations, and Austrian companies have been doing very good business in Romania for years. And don’t forget, we are on the front line with Russia, so we take great care of our borders.

You have to see for yourself, Karl Nehammer! You must come to Romania to see with your own eyes the efforts of my country and my people. You have to see what it’s like to be at the forefront of Europe’s defense in a war with Russia. See what the hundreds of kilometers of the common border with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova mean. Look at how we have taken in hundreds of thousands of refugees, most of them mothers and children fleeing death. See how we transport millions of tons of grain along Romania’s roads and through the Port of Constanta. Look at how we gave energy so that our brothers abroad would not freeze from the cold that Putin condemned them to!

You should come to Romania and make sure that Austrians can enjoy themselves in peace at the Christmas market in Vienna, and that Romania and its NATO allies are working day and night to ensure the security and stability of this region. Austria is also safe thanks to Romania, Carl Nehammer!’
