On December 11 and 12, he visited Ukraine on a working visit, during which he met with the leadership of the Ukrainian police and emergency services. “The gift belonged to one of the heads of the Ukrainian services,” the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

The police chief said on RMF radio on Saturday that the gift consisted of two grenade launchers, one of which had been converted into a loudspeaker.

He was assured that this weapon was not dangerous. But one of the two grenade launchers exploded on Wednesday, slightly injuring the police chief. The cause of the explosion is unknown. “The explosion was strong, it made a hole in the floor and damaged the ceiling,” said Yaroslav Szymczyk. An investigation is being conducted to determine the culprits in the accident.

Also, a civilian employee of the GUNP received minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.

As reported by Gazeta Wyborcza, the police chief temporarily lost his hearing after the explosion.
